On the afternoon of September 24, the 16th "McLean" Sports Forum Series of the School of Physical Education at Nanjing Normal University was successfully held in Room 101 of the school. Professor Liu Chengyi, doctoral supervisor from the School of Physical Education at South China Normal University, was invited as the keynote speaker to deliver an in-depth presentation on the theme of “Lifestyle and Longevity.” The event was chaired by Vice Dean Li Fanghui.

At the commencement of the lecture, Li Fanghui delivered a welcome address, extending a warm welcome to Professor Liu Chengyi. He spoke highly of Professor Liu's profound academic expertise and extensive practical experience in fields such as exercise physiology, expressing anticipation that this lecture would bring fresh insights to the faculty and students of the college.

Professor Liu Chengyi systematically elucidated the mechanisms by which lifestyle influences human health from multiple dimensions, including exercise, metabolism, immunity, and circadian rhythms. He emphasized that mortality factors are profoundly linked to lifestyle choices, and scientifically adjusting one's lifestyle can significantly extend lifespan. During the lecture, Professor Liu framed the vegetative state as an extreme lifestyle. Through multiple case studies, he demonstrated that even in situations of profound passivity, an individual's inner resolve and resilience remain crucial for recovery and longevity. This perspective sparked profound reflection on the relationship between extraordinary life experiences and vitality.

At the methodological level, Professor Liu emphasized advancing lifestyle medicine research through a systemic, holistic perspective. He advocated incorporating interdisciplinary thinking by drawing on the principle of symmetry in physics and the theory of unification in mathematics. He highlighted the core concept of “conservation quantities,” extending its application from physics and biology to medicine and lifestyle studies. Additionally, he introduced novel approaches such as “quantitative variation” to uncover the stable patterns within the dynamic changes of living systems. Finally, Professor Liu noted that achieving health and longevity requires the integrated regulation of physiological rhythms, dietary patterns, exercise habits, and psychological cognition to systematically construct a high-quality lifestyle model.
The lecture was rich in content and logically rigorous, combining theoretical depth with practical guidance. During the Q&A session, Professor Liu engaged in lively discussions with faculty and students on topics such as “personalized exercise prescriptions” and “lifestyle intervention strategies,” creating an energetic atmosphere.
